About Lora
Lora Shtirkova is a Bulgarian typeface designer working across both Latin and Cyrillic scripts. She collaborates with studios and foundries as a freelance type designer specialising in the planning, developing, and proofing of font families, as well as the design of type specimens and layouts. Beyond type design, her practice includes wordmarks for brands, mural lettering, and calligraphic work.
Her interest in letterforms began with calligraphy, which led her to pursue a Master’s degree in Type & Media at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), graduating in 2022. Her graduation project, Rubina Type Family, received a merit from the Gerard Unger Scholarship, and one of its styles was awarded a Special Mention at the GRANSHAN Type Design Competition in 2024.

Type designer—Bulgarian Cyrillic Expert at BoldMonday
This year, I collaborated with Bold Monday and their client, IBM, to localize Bulgarian Cyrillic forms for the IBM Plex family, starting with Plex Sans and expanding to Serif, Mono, and Sans Condensed. Additionally, I worked on a similar localization project for their retail typeface, Bilo. It was a valuable experience.
