the day before malaga type

Day 1: Lettering with Rainer

Non-official lettering workshop with Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer at café bar Al Grano, Málaga, 24 October 2019. The work followed for the next few days. The café has a different voice now.

Just a day before Málaga Type took place, after my classes in school on Thursday(I finish at 21:30), I found my Belgian friend Danny and Rainer Scheichelbauer(Mekkablue), in a café in the Soho Barrio, working on the lettering of the menu signs.

It was interesting and inspiring to look at Rainer working. First, sketching on paper, or on napkins. Then pencil sketching the letters on the board. I arrived just a bit after he finished with the English Breakfast. The big wall that says Sugerencias, took more than 2 hours to write. It's a precise work that requires centering, equal size of the letters, good spacing, balance.

He said these signs are his first lettering signs.

Me and Danny tried to document everything. This was just the beginning of a three day Lettering and illustrations non-official workshop with incredible people. Follow the next part here.
